Do you remember how I was ranting and raving about our missile build-up on Russia's border? Was it done just to hope Russia would react? Do you remember how Georgia invaded South Ossetia in a move that was much more moronic than Japan thinking they could defeat us?
Those were too pointless idiotic moves on part of our President. Things were fine. But they were clearly made to provoke Russia to action. And Russia did.
But Bush was hoping Russia's reaction would stir another wave of Patriotism. His version of Patriotism is for Americans to cower and ask no questions while he protects us from whoever he chooses to protect us from at the time. Bush did those things to provoke a reaction.
The only reason President Bush was elected again is that he had to protect us from Sadaam Hussein's link to Osama and weapons of mass destruction. The idea that Sadaam posed an immenent threat to our military? Did we not destroy his weapons when we left? Weren't we lied to about his military capabilities when we invaded him the first time?
In all fairness Bin Laden did the same thing. He hit us hard, he knew us well. He knew we would not stop after destroying one country but that we would go as far as world opinion could stand. Had the United States stopped in Afghanistan Bin Laden would have lost. Despite the Bush lie, Osama would have been killed on site in Iraq. So we attacked Iraq, the only place we were sure he was not.
But smart Americans, let me take that back. Smart Americans never voted for George Bush. But by the time George and Georgia's Russian antics took place no one cared. Only Bakersfield was saying the reason Russia didn't want missiles aimed at it from its border is because it was guilty of something. Only Bakersfield said that allowing Russia to retaliate was something Nevile Chamberlain would do.
It was something Bush hoped the world would over react to. But the world said, "Fool me once. Shame on, shame on you. If you fool me. Ya can't get fooled again." or something like that, Mr. President.
